Aww, I was hoping to be an English teacher, but I get what you’re saying.

As soon as I saw the title of your article I thought, duh she is and English Teacher! How can she not be a statist. It is like asking, Top 10 signs the president is a statist. Then you saved it for last as the #1 answer and along the way you let me know how statism is taught and ingrained in their teachings. I thoroughly appreciated this.

I disagree with you on the desirability of the passive voice. It encourages dull writing and evasive thinking. Without the passive voice, we can say, “Someone leaked the document,” and that works for me.

Awesome.

For #2, I’d just like to point out the the pronoun ‘one’ is singular, third person, and as a side benefit, also genderless. To me, it also feels a little bit more libertarian and emphasizes individualism as opposed to the more collectivized ‘they’.
Or does that sound way too British and formal?

I actually use “one” as a pronoun in everyday speech. I use it because it sounds better, really – “one” rolls off the tongue better than “they,” and makes me sound vaguely pretentious.
Then again, I’m an avid reader and somewhat of a logophile.

Using words like “logophile” makes you sound more than vaguely pretentious.

Heh. At least they are consistent. When asked questions my college english teacher would tell you to refer to the book. Then correct you on your assignment telling you the book is wrong.
